Sepang International Circuit

THE BRIEF

Sepang International Circuit was built in 1999. In 2015, Dromo was commissioned to redesign and improve the track to create more spectacular racing. The circuit was resurfaced and several corners were redesigned in 2016. Since then, Dromo has continued to support the venue through various projects, including asphalt works from Turns 7 to 12 in 2023.

The work at Sepang in 2015 and 2016 was among the first projects delivered under Dromo’s new organisational structure. Alongside complete resurfacing, the final corner was redesigned to address safety concerns and increase overtaking opportunities. The redesign created the hairpin with the steepest adverse crossfall on both the F1 and MotoGP World Championship calendars. Although some riders criticised the corner, it became one of the most distinctive in the championships and enabled memorable overtaking at Sepang.
